Am planning on moving back to Scotland next year after 10 years in the states. Am just about to get some new scuba gear and wondering what are the most popular brands over there (service and warranty availability) Looking at buying BC - Mares, Oceanic or seaquest. Any good stores in Edinburgh area (heading for the borders - pretty sure there are no scuba stores there) any help would be great. Have never dived cold water so that's going to be an interesting challenge! Hilary

Maybe you could try www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk. A lot more UK divers use that forum than this one. I met up with them when I was back home for Christmas and they are a good bunch of people and know their stuff.

Hi there. There is a good dive shop in Edinburgh at this link. If you want to PM me, I can give you lots more details of how you can get going when you get home.

PS - if you've never dived cold, I could easily sort you out a dry suit spec.

Ditto FAR X Yorkshire divers are a good bunch of people and could fulfill any kind of diving you would want

Believe it or not, but the Wreck Ferrets can be useful as well :11:

While I am a supporter of both boards, they cater for different tastes and different ideals.

thanks for the info folks!

I live over the other side on the West Coast. The vis is better on the East cost but the west coast lochs are not so weather dependant.
Sorry I don't know the Edinburgh shops. Aquatron in Glasgow will match the lowest quoted prices for dive gear in the U.K. I think dive gear is generally cheaper in the U.S. particularly Halcyon, DUI suits or a torch like an underwater kinetics light cannon. In Scotland I'd say Apex ATX 40's or Scuba Pro Mk16's are the most popular regs and Buddy the most popular BCD.
