I'm a Fish!
We need St. Helens to blow her stack like she did in May 1980. We need the ash.

When she woke up in 1980 we got a couple of inches of ash covering everything, including Coeur d’Alene Lake.

The ash worked like a filter and the vis in the lake was well over 100’ for several weeks.

SO, Blow the winds are right to get the ash to us. The great vis is worth it.

As Jimmy would put it,

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows,
I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

Ground she's movin' under me
Tidal waves out on the sea,
Sulphur smoke up in the sky
Pretty soon we learn to fly
Let me hear ya now

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

Now my girl quickly said to me,
Mon you better watch your feet
Lava come down soft and hot,
You better lava me now or lava me not

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

(Instrumental)

No time to count what I'm worth,
Cause I just left the planet earth,
Where I go I hope there's rum,
Not to worry, mon soon come

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

But I don't want to land in New York City
Don't want to land in Mexico (No no no)
Don't want to land on no three mile island
Don't want to see my skin aglow (No no no)

Don't want to land in Comanche Sky Park
Or in Nashville Tennessee (No no no)
Don't want to land in no San Juan airport
Or in the Yukon Territory (No no no)

Don't want to land no San Diego
Don't want to land in no Buzzard Bay (No no no)
I don't want to land on no Ayatollah
I got nothin' more to say

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

I don't know, I don't know,
I don't know where I'm a-gonna go
When the volcano blows

Desperate? Gary - you should come over to our side of the hill. Last night we had 30'+ vis for cove 2. In January we had 150' vis in Port Hardy.

Not Desperate. Lake Pend Oreille have between 100 & 200' of vis most of the year. It's just CdA Lake. It was unreal to have it as clear as it was in 1980.

It would be nice to get pics of our wrecks that showed the entire 150' long vessel in one shot instead of little segments. :D

I was only 10 when St Helens blew. We had 5 inches of ash on the farm in Eastern Washington. We experienced lot's of strange affects from the ash but I didn't know about the water visibility issue. Very interetsing. I dove in Lake CDA a couple weeks ago and the vis was horrible.

I remember that after the ash came the harvest was very dusty that year and the ash wore out the combines in record time. The cattle's teeth wore down at an accelerated rate. There was some debate as to the ash helping the crops. It certainly didn't hurt. So OK, bring on the Ash!

Another thing Gary, maybe you know about this. Years ago, over 10 years I suppose. Hayden Lake was very clear and was nice diving. Lot's of bass etc. I dove it last year and the visibility was terrible! Same time of year, same place, etc. What happened to Hayden Lake?

Also, in the Spokane arm of Lake Roosevelt there are swarms of Craw Dads (some call them crayfish) where there were none 10 years ago. They are also very aggressive. If you sit still for any length of time they come after you. Normally craw dads hide under rocks, etc. when they see you comming.... Just wondering what's been going on here the last 10 years or so...

Vis on Hayden comes and goes depending on the runoff. Last winter was wet so more run off means more yucky stuff.

We train the Crawdads to come to us. You can get enough for dinner faster without much swimming. :D Maybe the little buggers were hungry and spotted your rump roast. IMHO I think the colder water makes them more active but I don't know for sure.

I wonder what diving Spirit Lake (the lake adjacent to Mt. St. Helens) would be like. I took this picture a couple of days before the "re-awakening" of St. Helens. You can see the huge amount of trees still floating on the lake. I've heard that fish are starting to come back...

Thanks for the feedback on Hayden Lake Gary, I'm glad to hear that the low vis. was just a weather thing. Maybe you can tell me why I never see any craw dads in Idaho.... I've never seen one in Hayden, CDA, Pend Orielle, Priest Lk, Bead Lake, etc. They're in lots of the lakes and rivers I've dove in Eastern Washington.... Idaho is such be a beautiful place, can't imagine why a craw dad wouldn't want to live there. After all, it seems like a favorite spot for relocating Californians :)

The craw fish are HERE.

Mount St. Helens?? I don't even know her.

BTW, last night's dive in Lake Coeur d' Alene, vis about 6 feet. Whopee...
