Motormarine II and Macro Question

While taking pics with the Motormarine II and 2T macro len is it better to use the camera stobe "flash" rather than the external YS60 TTL? It appear the camera "flash" worked better. The exteranl strobe usually washed out the color and created some bad shadows.

I am relatively new to u/w photography and therefore seeking advice.

I bought Liburdi's book and he indicates that we should use the external strobe for macro - but my (limited) experince is questioning his recommendation.
