We're going out to Morro Bay next week for a few days, don't know if time is going to allow for diving or not, but was wondering if anyone knows about the area; dive operators, etc.

Have had only one cold water dive experience, and it was not a great one. My gear is more designed for warm water. With a 7 mil wetsuit and additional hooded vest under that, I had to use an ungodly amount of weight to even get underwater, then once I got to the point where the neoprene started to compress I could barely get enough air in my BC to get neutral, not fun! Next time we'll rent gear, if we decide a next time is in order.

Info wold be appreciated.

I have about 50 dives on the bay side of morro bay. Make sure you dive the bay at high slack tide for best visibility and minimum current. The current can get ripping through there during tidal changes. Be sure to use a dive flag as boats go in and out of the bay all day long.

When you first enter the area is mostly rocks and as you swim towards the center of the channel its all sand. Not really a whole lot to see as most of the fish life is not to good anymore. There is a old small sunken boat in the bay. Expect vis to be around 3ft to 20ft with the average being about 10ft.

The nearest dive shops are San Luis Obispo Ocean currents dive shop http://www.slooceancurrents.com/ and aquanuts in atascadero http://www.aquanuts.net/ There is also a dive shop in pismo now.

Being that you have every little cold water experience stay away from the open water side and stick to the bay. There is very little kelp at morro bay but be aware of it and how to untangle yourself or just bend the kelp easily breaking it. There are very often 1 or 2 otters near the rocks also.

In may or june of 2008 we will be offering a Dive out of morro bay and avila california. We are six pac certified meaning we can bring out six people, fully insured. The platform will be a 26 foot radon. If you are interested please email or leave a post. or you can go by SLo Ocean Currents they can get you hooked up with me. You can charter the whole boat or bring some friends. We are camera friendly also.

Here is my phone number Eight zero Five- Five Five zero- Sixty four fourty eight.

Thank you
