I was taking my normal morning train into downtown yesterday, noticed the same people who sit in the same spots everyday. I sit in the 2nd car from the front of train. Everything seemed normal.....its an express train so after 3 more stops it goes straight downtown....train started to speed up to about 65mph I later found out. It passes by the rest of the commuter platforms going this speed..well yesterday was a little different.

Train was cruising along at 65mph no more than 10 minutes after I got on at my stop, all of a sudden we hear a thump and then a bunch of cracking sounds that lasted for atleast 5-10 seconds it seemed. The train came to a slow stop. Nobody knew what happened, it was obvious we hit something and it almost felt like we were going to derail. The conductor announces to everyone on the train that someone had jumped off one of the platforms and committed suicide. The guy deliberatly jumped in front of our train that was going 65mph.

Ofcourse this incident really shook everyone up, especially the women. Most of them started crying immediately. We were all in shock, the sounds we heard were just awful.

I have no problem with anyone committing suicide. I think you have a right to take your own life if you chose too. None of my business. But, what I have a problem with is, the poor engineer, conductors, policemen, paramedics, etc. They were all visibly distraught. This guy could of stayed home and done the job and so many less people would have been affected. This guys family members were going to suffer regardless how he did it, but why this way! Suicide is a very selfish and cowardly act...I can't think of anything worth committing suicide over...its just crazy.

I dont know if you heard about this acceident in California, but its really a sad story.

I guy was upset about something and got into a police pursuit which stopped on an over pass of the main freeway interstate 5. This person had a gun and was threathing to kill himself during the standoff. He eventually did shoot himself and the force of the shot pushed his body off the overpass and he fell on a car killing the passenger.

This is so discussting i felt ill. If your gonna kill yourself do it in private and dont risk an innocent persons life. He killed a young mother. i cant imagine how difficult it must be for that poor family. It is a very upsetting situation.

My step-dad tells us of a similar story but this one happened while he was a conductor for Amtrak at that time (he's since retired after 40-some years). Anyway, apparently it had been snowing that day and everything was covered white. The train was headed towards Philadelphia from New York when someone jumps out of nowhere wearing white to match the background, commits suicide by jumping in front of the train. After the investigation (local cops and Amtrak police) the train is told to proceed to Philly.

Well, lo and behold...as the train slows down towards the platform in Philly to discharge and take in new passengers guess what greeted them?? The arm of the person who committed suicide was stuck in front of the engine as if ready to give people a handshake. That must've been some sight to behold.
