After shooting 40 years you begin to learn that critique is just that....critical. What you don't mention is close to being in the ball park our only a matter of opinion. That being said....watch your composition. Be aware of the rule of thirds. Said another way, some of this work is too "busy." Hard to tell on my galaxy phone but exposure could be a tad off, but you could use exposure along with the rule of thirds to make a "good" shot something to hang on a gallery wall.

At first glance they all seem quite a bit (like half stop or more) underexposed. Here is your clownfish with a full stop exposure increase. clowns for sb.jpg
Even with a full stop increase the white on the fish is still not blown out. I think that kdsmith has good advice and think in terms of rule of thirds and get closer so your strobes can get you the exposure you need.

Good advice. I need to calibrate my screen to make sure some of this is not editing issues. I asked for opinions as on this trip I was doing some experimenting. One thing I was playing with was trying for a "darker more moody" feel. Trying to use strobes to highlight some features while leaving others more in "shadow". In addition trying placing the subjects differently in the "frame". I guess this did not translate, lol. Guess the rule of Thirds, etc, exist for good reason:dork2:

I understand the dark and moody but I think that for most pics you need something that is bright enough to catch your eye. For example I like the harlequin shrimp picture BUT for me my eye immediately goes to the two white sponges at the bottom right. Get those dark and it would be really nice.

I see some snoots in your future; so a trip to Home Depot is probably in order.

Merry Christmas
