After reading several posts I have come to the conclusion that the Apeks reg is the wa to go. I am assuming that if I buy them online I will need to take them to a local Sea Quest dealer when it is time to have them serviced, is this correct? I was looking at the the TX40 and TX40 Octo setup that dive inn has for $250. I think there are also two more TX40 combos that they list for higher prices, what might the differences be and are they worth the extra money? One last thing, since this is my first dive gear purchase on line, what will I need to have done when I recieve the regs and plan to dive with them?

Yes, you will want to take them to a shop that services Apeks regs. When you get them the hoses may not be hooked up. This is a very easy thing to do. I'd recommend taking them into a shop to have them checked out. I know of a couple people that have had free flow problems due to them not being adjusted right when they got them. The shop should be able to set them up and tweak them for a nominal service charge.
The TX-40's are good regs. I've seen more people use the TX-40's and the newer ATX-40's as backup regs and opt to go with the TX-50 or ATX-50 as the primary which is what I do. If I were you I would spend the little extra money and pickup the ATX-50 and ATX-40 setup for $352.00 last I checked on the DiveInn website. The difference in the TX series regs from the ATX series regs is the second stage. The ATX series are a little smaller and don't have the wide rubber exhaust tee's. This make them a little more comfortable on longer dives as it eliminates some jaw fatigue. The difference between the ATX-50/TX-50 and ATX-40/TX-40 regs is that the 50's have an adjustable knob on the side of the second stage to control airflow. This is a nice feature for deeper dives but it's not absolutely necessary to have. Hope this helps.:)

i just used my atx50/40 in the ocean today for the first time!!!i cannot rave enough: no vibration, great mouthpiece, no bubble interference, and most importantly: breathability is ridiculously easy! money well spent at dive inn. great deal on a great set. water was 200 ft vis. today, saw about 6-7 sharks: nurses, black tips and reef sharks. a nurse shark came up to us and let us touch it, very curious! great diving! west palm beach!
