We stopped in and saw Craig Oberlin in the OTS booth. OTS has a new full face mask designed for the Sport diver market. The "Guardian" model face mask is due to market in 2nd quarter 2008. The photos are of the pre-production prototypes.

The mask has a double layer for a secure seal around the upper face, and a easy removable regulator. The design has the air flow across the lens plate for fog protection.

Also available is optional voice modules for the Guardian.

OTS is marketing this product for distribution through Dive shops, dealers, and retailers.
If you're interested, please contact Craig Oberlin, Marketing Director. He's at the show this week.

Check out their website at Underwater Communications by Ocean Technology Systems, Buddy Phone, Aquacom, Scubacom, Buddy Line, full face mask, AGA.

Pictured in the phots is Craig Oberlin, Marketing Director. We all know him here as Otter!

I stopped by the booth actually just to see Otter. He has a ready smile with a quick wit and I am honored to call him friend. I had heard about this mask last year around spring. I even told him then that I wanted to test dive it. "When it's ready" was always his reply as they were still working on it! What's so hard about a mask design we might ponder? Sure, it's a full face mask with an option for their underwater communication, but how difficult could it be?

Well, perfection takes TIME and this is as close to perfection as I have ever seen in a full face mask. The volume (though more than just a traditional mask) has been greatly reduced and the fit on my face was GREAT! Now, to clarify, my face is pretty hard to fit and especially so by the eyes, but this seemed to negotiate that area extremely well. It appears to be lighter than any of the other full faced masks that I have tried and with the reduced volume, it should be far more comfortable in the field. They also have the inlet vents from the regulator pass dry fresh air over the lenses to eliminate any fogging. I know it didn't fog for the few minutes I had it on, and I used no defog.

I almost forgot! The quick release for the regulator is awesomely simple AND secure! When Craig popped it out, I thought it was WAY TOO EASY and I had visions of this happening under water. "DUDE!" I exclaimed, "Isn't that kind of dangerous?" Then he showed me just how secure it really was. Now you don't have to use a wrench and disconnect the regulator from the supply hose when you are stowing your gear. I LIKE that!

Great job OTS. I am genuinely impressed with your solutions to making full mask diving easy, fun and reliable! I can't wait to dive one, "when it's ready"!!!
