Moorea, French Polynesia, December 2007

Taotoi - a beautiful dive site known for its black tip sharks. Only a few minutes from the dive centre and in balmy 26C water. Even before we entered the water we spotted a few sharks from the surface! For most of the dive there were about a dozen sharks swimming around, as well as schools of surgeon fish. Unreal! Not much in terms of coral but some interesting fish such as two ocellated lionfish hiding in the rocks. Wish I'd had a camera!

Diving and everything else is expensive in French Polynesia and a dive typically costs $80US. I dove with Bathy’s Diving who were very friendly and helpful. We arranged the diving last minute and they picked us up and dropped us off at the ferry terminal.
Nearby is Stingray point where you can see lots of friendly stingrays. We rented kayaks and paddled out to snorkel with them and even spotted a couple black tips passing by. Good snorkelling here.

no underwater photos this time, but the scenery above is just as amazing!
