The attached pic is the so-called "Monster Cis Scooter" referred to by Meng-Tze.
Click on it to open in high quality-full sized jpg. Shot by Wes Skiles.
Designed by Dr. Bill Stone and piloted by Jill Heinerth, the scooter was actually a 3-D mapper used to explore and map in total darkness. Dr. Stone has developed it further and the mapper is now autonomous--it swims and explores intelligently. (darn -no need for a human to drive it)
If all goes well, in the near future the mapper will be sent by NASA to map the underwater caverns on Jupiter's moon-Europa.
And Jill's diving the famous modified Cis-Lunar MK 5P CCR rebreather. This particular rebreather has been photographed and filmed for "The Cave" movie, documentaries by Discovery Channel, National Geographic Explorer, "Ice Island", several PBS programs, and many more. It may be the most filmed and photographed rebreather in history.
Recently, Paul Heinerth dove this very MK 5 during the exciting exploration at Weeki Wachee--so it is still worthy of strenous expedition diving!
