The article says "Cayman Islands" but it also says "Island-wide" so does that mean it only applies to Grand Cayman and not the sister islands of Little Cayman and Cayman Brac?

I've answered my own question, I found the list below of Cayman properties that are participating in the hurricane money-back guarantee and most are on Grand Cayman, but the list includes the Turtle Nest Inn which is our favorite lodging on Grand Cayman! The Cayman Brac Beach Villas is the only property I see listed for the sister islands.

Their guarantee seems somewhat limited (you must cancel at least 48 hours prior to checkin). The wording is very unclear about what happens otherwise (like on day 2 of your trip). Plane fare? Emergency accommodations?

This is why you purchase proper trip insurance.

It mentions "a trip cut short" but I'm not cancelling my trip insurance, either!

This is anecdotal, but we were scheduled to fly into LC on the day Ivan hit back in 2004. We had trip insurance, but never had to use it. LCBR, Cayman Airways, and Continental all worked with us to reschedule flights and hotel bookings with no change fees and it was pretty painless all the way around (other than getting Continental to admit a month later that flights to GC were allowed, but not scheduled by Continental for their own convenience).

I should mention though, that I have less than zero confidence that United would be as accommodating these days...which is why we are flying Southwest to GC in September instead of United. I am sure United, with their "we despise our customers" customer service policy would take the opportunity to add a hurricane surcharge on top of the normally outrageous change fees they charge.

this seems to be marketings flavour of the month. just got an email from the aggressor fleet promoting a similar concept.

IIRC Aggressor has been doing that for years.
