As you probably already know, the State Department of Fish and Game is
in the process of designating areas to be protected in the Central
Coast. This process is known as the Marine LIfe Protection Act, MLPA.
The regional stakeholder representatives ( e.g. the diving community)
will be meeting in Monterey for two days on Oct. 5 & 6, 2005. On
November 29 & 30, the Blue Ribbon Task Force will be meeting in the
Monterey/Santa Cruz area, and voting on the proposed alternatives for
the siting of Marine Protected Areas. We need to be sure that this
political body which is overseeing this process, votes on a proposed
alternative which will provide the maximum protection for our diving
areas. Both of these bodies need to hear from what your interests are.
Please plan on attending these meetings. More information will be
provided as the dates approach.
