It weighs less, but everything I've read is that the titanium and other 'light weight metals' regs aren't worth the difference in price. You save a 1/2 pound or so, but with a 50 pound bag restriction, it's a drop in the bucket.

Also, I've always heard a standard plated marine brass reg is easier to maintain, more reliable, etc.

You do save les than a pound. But you pay for it in several ways.

The chrome plated brass bodied first stage has been around for half century and it is not uncommon for one to be going strong and still be in service after 30-40 years. I don't think the Mk 25SA will go that distance without sufferring material or corrosion issues.

In contrast the track record on aluminum first stages has not been good - they have invariably went out of production due to corrosion or strenght issues. The Mk 25SA is a variation on the theme that attempts to overcome the strenght issues by using stainless steel in strategic locations. In my opinion it still leaves the corrosion issue and it magnifies it by creating the potential for the dissimilar metals to exhange ions and eat away at each other in a salt filled environment.

The Mk 25T is a much better lightweight option, but it is hideously expensive.

Personally, I'd stay with a straight Mk 25.
