Did all MK25's have the Antifreeze cap (the external fin thingy between the reg body and swivel)?

If not, does anyone know how to identify ScubaPro regs by serial numbers?

My MK25 doesn't have the AF cap, (if it is a MK25 :shakehead: ).

Is it an option that can be added? By the user?

Thanks in advance...again!!

It can be added by a tech if you want it. I think the very first generation of MK25's didn't have it.

The dealer cost for the new finned swivewl cap is in the $25.00 range. However the swivel turret itself is also different and that is another $25.00 part. Some dealers mark up parts others do not.

It makes sense to combine the upgrade with an annual service where the reg is totally dissasembled and reassembled already there would be no additional labor to make the swap. It is little safer that way also as the piston head o-ring should be replaced and when remving the cap the piston often comes with it, meaning the high pressure end of the reg needs to be disassembled to re-install it properly. Plus at that puint the HP o-ring shoudl be replaced as well as the seat as reusing the seat after piston removal creates the potential for a second seating groove to develop in the seat, which will result in IP creep after a short time in service. At that point you are half way through an annual servce already.

That said, the cold water advantage conferred by the finned swivel cap upgrade is minimimal to non existant. I'd just ensure my older Mk 25 has all the rest of the current TIS kit including the latest piston and piston head bushing (sold as a set for another $20-$25). The remainder fo the kit is included in the annual service kit.

So if I understand you correctly, it is more important that the TIS kit has been installed rather than the heat sink cap. I just had the annual service done a few days ago because I just purchased the reg. I don't really care for the shop I was dealing with, (they frown on non-buyers, you know...) so I don't want to ask them what the internal configuration is. However, I do have the packages from the kits they installed. Can I figure out what is in the reg by looking at them?

Is it possible to figure out exactly what reg and series you have by serial number? Also, it would be great to get a parts schematic, as well. How do you get in touch with SP? They seem a little difficult to get a hold of....
