I'm not ordinarily one to measure things according to "artificial" or "arbitrary" milestones, but I did log my 200th dive yesterday - and 201st as well.

Two nice, uneventful wreck dives here off the coast of NJ.

Was glad that I was able to do this "milestone" dive with my usual buddy Dave (tajkd) One of my first dives with him was his 250th right when I started diving. I was also with him on his 300th on the Cayman Agressor last year, and he and I were "informal" DMs for his son's AOW certification two weeks ago. (In fact, when I do the math, it looks like I've done almost a 1/3 of my 200 dives with Dave!)

I'm clipping off about 100 dives a year since starting back in March of 2006. As I always tell people "I didn't get certified until the age of 40, so I got a LOT of catching up to do!"

Since then I've been diving here in NJ as often as possible, but have also been able to do some dive trips to many great locations including Hawaii (x2) Florida (x4) Catalina and Channel Islands (x2) Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, Little Cayman, Curacao, and Bonaire.

The downside is that at this rate it will be three more years before I can select the next choice in the "Number of Dives" section of my ScubaBoard profile! Though, I do already have next year's major trip booked: Heading to Egypt and the Red Sea. (Guess who my buddy will be on that trip!)

Thanks to all those here who I've had the opportunity to dive with around the world, as well as to those who've answered my questions or put up with my answers to their's, and to everyone that shares their knowledge and experience here - whether experienced diver or newbie.

Congratulations!

I, too, am penciling in a Red Sea liveaboard for next year. I've been wanting to do a week on the MV Tala ever since the boat was first advertised, and I'm hoping next year, I can make it happen.

Congratulations! I also started diving late (age 45). Thanks for the info on the NJ dives.

Best of Luck

Let me know if you have any interest in joining our trip - we will have two of the Emperor fleet's top boats with about 30 or so tech-rec minded US divers. From what I understand European, Middle-east and Asian divers who frequent Red Sea liveaboards have a "different approach to diving" and that many Americans, particularly those with a more tech-rec approach, don't enjoy.

By chartering the two boats we'll be able to specify the dive sites and profiles.

The whole trip is actually a week land tour and Nile cruise, followed by a week on the Red Sea. Don't have the exact dates right here with me, but it's end of April-first week of May or so.

We have a few spots remaining.

Nice!

Oh, and starting at 40 is young. :D
