I was going to post this in the I2I forum, but I thought more people would see it here, so here goes:
I have been around the board for a while and probably form my first post ran into Mike Ferrara. He and I are in constant "discussion"
argue
over various training issuse and the merits of certian training agencies.
Mikes dogged determination to spread his neutral bouyancy propoganda and his evil single mindedness about perfect trim has finally claimed another victim.
Last week while absent mindedly rotomilling a couple of dozen open water students, I found myself starting to teach them the dreaded horizontal hover. I didnt brief them about it, I didnt make it a formal excercise, I just did the natural progression from a vertical hover. Once they were hovering to my satisfaction, I just lay flat in the mindless lemming or snowplow position.
Now, although most open water diver students dont quite gain the finess I have reached over a lifetime of diving :angel_2:, most of them pretty much got the hang of it no real problem..
So Mike, you may have hung up your instructor hat, you may have retired your log book stamp and sold your store, but you will continue changing the way the world learns to dive forever more, as thousands of future divers and hundreds of new instructors will learn this technique, not under the derogatory names bolded above, but as the Mike Ferrara position.
And Jonnythan!!!, hold your tounge you young dottrel, if you want your own thread, send me a Halcyon ssBP/wing for singles and I promise I will teach PADI open water and Instructor courses wearing it along with a seven foot hose, and I will even post photos on the board of me doing it..
Mike F..... the legend lives on.
