I really cant believe I am posting this, but after a year of listening to Mike's rants, whining, distorted perspective and gripes, I have finally bit the bullet:

I have four sets of ss BP/W with hogathian harnesses and single set up sitting in Mecixan customs, waiting for delivery on monday, to be distributed among some of the thinking instructors of one of the largest dive centers in the world.

Mike, you finally did it. I will rotomill thousands of resorts this year, and I will do it wearing a hogarthian rig. Kudos dude, you are changing "the way the world learns to dive"

(thinks to self: I wonder if I should go for Air2 or Spare Air on my new rig)

Now if this thread gets hijacked into a discussion about beer as quickly as the last one I posted (14 posts), I will be trully impressed.

I'll drink to that. But then, Ill drink to almost anything.

It's just about noon here and I just opened my first in preperation to go do some work in the garage.

Mark, you're getting to be a real pain with these threads crediting/blaming me for your actions as an instructor. You're an experienced, thinking diver and instructor and especially as a cave diver you know the advantages of certain skill sets and equipment configurations. The fact that you continue to apply what you have learned as a diver to how you do things as an instructor is natural (for the good ones) and not the least bit surprising. It's commendable but I have little or nothing to do with it.

Swapping ideas and even argueing about methods is something that benefits professionals in many different trades.

I will point out one thing and that's the great service that boards like this provide in making it possible for divers and instructors from all over the world to swap ideas and even argue them. I belong to several farrier and blacksmith associations and they provide a means of communication between people within those trades. They sponsor things like meetings, demonstrations, contests and even research. All in all a great way for tradsmen to improve and continue their education. As an example I recently attended a meeting of the Indiana blacksmiths association. There is a national or international organization with branches at the state level and local groups within those. Smiths display their work and swap techniques, one guy demonstrated the making of a decorative hinge of authentic design and we ate lots of great food. Dive certification agencies primarily facilitate communication between the agency (usually a business) and the instructors but don't do much to get the instructors together.

Maybe it's time for an instructor association that's run by instructors and independant of any agency? Just a thought.

Pshaw. Can you recommend a good site for plans? I want to build a forge in a friends back yard so we can make gates that look like ivy for a loft reno. Accepting credit where credit is due is okay if you don't feel comfortable taking it.

Thats called denial dude, you harped on about it so much I decided to prove you wrong. Fortunately, way before I got off my butt to do it, I realised you were right.

That is why you get the kudos.

Pretty soon, you will have me advocating trimix for depths less than 200' :11:

I seem to remember a couple of guys called John and Erik said the same thing while drinking beer in their garage about thirty years or so ago..

I've been racking my brain for an acronym for that instructor's association. (Seriously, I'm all for it personally)

All I could come up with was : SCUBA A(ssociation) of L(earned) E(ducators).
