I've got a week off in february and the original plan was to do some diving here in local BC waters. The weather has been so freakin' cold that I've scrapped that plan and i'm looking to go somewhere warm instead!

So far I'm thinking of maui, florida, or somewhere in the caribbean. I've never gone diving anywhere but local so this should be interesting. The budget is real tight so I need to know where I can find a decent hotel/hostel, and good diving. I'm open to any suggestions, so please let me know what you think!

It's a long flight & probably not direct, but...Cozumel, Mexico has great diving. Some good, budget hotels & great food that's budget priced as well. However, I have no idea what airfare will cost from Vancover(Seattle might be a better choice). Airfare is usually the budget travelers downfall.

How about Cabo San Lucas, MX. A shorter flight, but the diving is not as good as Coz.

You can find great deals in Mexico. Cheap hotels, food & transportation can be had with a little research. My daughter & I were in Puerto Morelos, Mexico Jan. 1-5 & spent about $400 USD on room, food, transportation & activities. (Diving not included in that price) You can even camp, if you're really looking to save money.

No brainer. . .Cozumel.
