Cozumel Introduces Mexico's First Annual Dive Show

The island of Cozumel, known as one of the world’s top dive destinations, will host “Mexico Underwater,” the country’s first dive show. Open to all dive industry professionals, Mexico Underwater 2005 will feature three days of dive-related experiences May 12-14.

Billed as “Mexico as never seen before,” Mexico Underwater features a complete seminar of Mexico’s natural underwater environment.

“We’re excited and proud to host this underwater display of Mexico and look forward to sharing its beauty with the world,” said Javier Aranda Pedrero, Executive Director of the Cozumel Fideicomiso de Promoción Turística.

The show features educational seminars, news on dive technology, equipment information, travel opportunities and new product demos. As a tribute to ocean life, a film festival featuring award-winning underwater cinematography from around the world will be held, along with a photo contest. Invitees include dive operators, instructors, environmentalist, and members of the Mexican dive community.

The island of Cozumel, named “The Land of the Swallows" by the Maya who inhabited it more than 2,000 years ago, is located in the state of Quintana Roo, east of the Yucatan Peninsula. Situated along the world’s second-largest reef network and home to the famed Palancar Reef, discovered by Jacques Cousteau in 1962, Cozumel boasts a first-class international dive and snorkel reputation. Water temperatures rest between 77 to 82 degrees F year-round and visibility levels up to 200 feet.

My question is, will this have any effect of travel to Coz during this event? More crouds? More experienced diver on the charters? No effect at all?
