Can anyone give me some input on this? A friend and I are in diagreement about where to dive in mexico. Please give me your opinions. East or west coast!
I believe the east is where it' at, right?

Well, it depends what you want. The East coast contains Cozumel, so you get your ideal coral reef diving. The West coast would have the Sea of Cortez: big mantas, hammerhead sharks, whale sharks, grey whales and sea lions, and Isla de Guadelupe for great white sharks.

IF THIS IS OUR FIRST DIVE TRIP WOULD THE REEF BE BETTER?
PERSONNLY i WANT TO GO TO THE REEF.

Cozumel gets my vote hands down. But I'm prejudice. I've been over two dozen times, own a house there and will be headed back in a week.

Lots of reefs of varying difficulty. Plenty of eagle rays, turtles, and nurse sharks.
Easy traveling and enough to see and do on the surface to not get bored. If you're interested in dive op recommendations drop me a message.

Jim,how long will you be there? I am hoping to be there the first week of Feb if all goes well.

Conditions on Mexico's west coast can vary greatly. The diving in Cozumel is consistently good.

Our first warm-water trip was to Cozumel, and we were blown away by the color and beauty of the reefs. We did a repeat trip during their "rainy" season and the visiblilty was still 100 feet.

I've seen huge, beautiful mantas off of Mexico's west coast...absolutely unforgettable dives with mantas swarming all around us. On the other hand, the diving isn't consistently good and the reefs are made up mainly of brown rock formations.

I still love both coasts, but I'd recommend Cozumel for a first trip.

I LOVE Mexico. East, West, North, and South. If you want warm water diving, go to Cozumel on the East Side. There is warm water diving to be had in the Sea of Cortez with great diving as well, especially the spectacular Whale Sharks. Colder/ Cold diving, Cabo San Lucas around the cape to the Pacific Ocean (Gorda Banks; Soccoro Island where the Big Un's hang out) all the way up the coast along Baja. It all depends on what you want.

I would go back to Cozumel, but there are way too many other dive locals to explore. I'm heading to Roataan in May!
