Hello,

I have the possibility to buy a light MetalSub HID200 (50w) with a cheap price (http://www.metalsub.nl/eng/prod_1_4.asp ).

They have Goodman Handle as acessory, but I don't know if the beam angle is good for signalling (is 6º or 12º degree?).

Do you know anything about it?

Thanks
Duarte S.

What power light does the rest of you team use?

Here goes a post from the company.

It appears they offer it with a 10 degree or a 60 degree beam. While I've never used a 10 degree, I did have a buddy use a 12 degree one time (rental - his cord croaked) and it was not very effective at signaling.

Looks like the square light will never die ...

Just a couple of thoughts on this:

Regarding beam angle - I would go with the most tightly focused beam available (6º if they have it). Anything wider will be difficult to use effectively for signaling.

Also, the posting referenced by Jason B mentions something about attaching the light to your [sic] "air tank" with a "quick release bracket". Attaching a light to a tank is problematic at best, and the fact that they mention this as a "feature" raises a red flag in my mind. How would it be attached to a harness? What if you are not diving air? (sorry, that last comment was a bit unfair, but I could not resist :D).

The other thing I notice from their own website is that bulb has a color temp of only 4200K. Color temp is actually more important than wattage or lumens, as a higher temp bulb will project a much brighter, whiter light (by way of comparison, Halcyon bulbs are more like 5000-6000K). A ~4000K bulb will look positively yellow against a good quality light with a higher temp bulb, and the beam will not penetrate as far.

My advice is to proceed with caution. Some things may not be a bargain at any price.
