Hello,

Just ranting here

<Rant>
What would be really nice is a nikonos type camera with SLR capabilities but in 2 1/4 format. Same simple controls as the nikonos.

Choices are a bit limited.

Mamiya RZ67. Housing by Aquatica. I can sell you a base housing for around $4300.

Hasselblad.

Gates H38

There are few Pentax 67 housings floating around the world. Saw one on ebay a few months ago. Limited production. Now discontinued.

MF underwater has some inherent drawbacks, including limited DOF. It would be pretty cool though. I've seen some work done with the Mamiya RZ67. It wasn't that good.

What would have cool is a housing for the Pentax 645 AF camera. This camera is very SLR like, with AE and AF. Nobody is interested in making a housing for it, since the world is going digital.

Hello,

The world is not totaly going digital. Just keep in mind everyoen said that b/w film would be dead by now with the introduction of color. Today color is going out and b/w is the major in thing. Also I think film is here to stay. There is so much you can do with film that is impossible with digital.

besides a housed 2 1/4 system would have many weaknesses, why I said something along the lines of the nikonos setup.

an amphibous MF camera. I know several people who would want one. But alas, there isn't enough demand to keep the Nikonos alive. Rest in peace, Nikonos.

P.S.
The RS didn't fare too well, imagine an MF RS type camera. Who could afford the lenses?

The biggest reason for the nikonos was the RS flop. I do think they will come out with some type of digital nikonos. As for an amphibious 2 1/4 format it would go over really well among the pro's but you would have to have a real good package for it.

I have also thought about the MF Nikonos. That would be great.
With a 70mm film back to get 80 shots/roll.

I think digital will take over 90% of the uw market. The problem
with digital is still quality and color saturation. So perhaps we will
see a few specialised houses/MF Nikonos on the market?

But again... the manufacturer needs to get the money back. I use
a Hasselblad (Fuji) full size panorama camera for land. That would
be interesting to take diving. I heard one guy made a house for it.

Scorpiofish,

FYI, there is someone trying to make a housing for the Pentax 645. See www.jonah.co.kr

Cheers,

Tony
