I was another one that got caught up in the whole Fantasy Island thing. Rich did move us to Media Luna, which I had no problem with after talking with him several times and seeing a few pics of the place.
Our flight from Chicago was good, nothing out of the ordinary. But once we got our luggage at the air port in Roatan, I started looking for someone holding a sign that said Media Luna. No one. After walking around looking at every sign again I spotted one from Henry Morgan, Media Luna parent company or some connection. The woman with the sign told me to wait a few minutes. She came back after a little while and asked for our info. They did not have our name on any list. She made some calls and told us a cab would be there in 30 minutes to pick us up. One showed up as soon as I got a cold beer. No big deal so on our way to the resort. Once you turn off the main road to get to the resort, that road is like a roller coaster ride.
The resort itself is beautiful. It's brand new so everything is nice and clean and shinny. You stay in individual cabanas, which are nice. They each have a flat screen tv, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and a small frig. The bathroom has 2 separate sinks and a bidet. They also each have a large deck that would hold about 25 people.
The week of our stay the resort was almost empty. So they started out the week preparing way to much food. But as the week went on they started to cut back some. As a whole the food was quite good. You had several main entrees to choose from. On Wednesday morning they came to each breakfast table and told us that there would be a different type of dinner that night. I would all be served by the wait staff. We were having lobster. That was a very good meal.
The staff goes out of there way to make sure you have everything you need. They are not as efficient as the staff of some other places we have been to, but for a place that just opened, they did ok.
As for the diving,of course it was great. But the instructors Ricardo and Claire, were fantastic. They let you dive your profile. Several of our dives were over an hour. Ricardo was good at pointing out all the little stuff. Once back on the boat he was quite funny. They were there to make sure you had a good experience diving,it's not just a job for them. I would go back just for them.
As with anything, not all is perfect. We did have frequent power outages. It was only for a minute, but long enough to screw up the clock we brought with us. I did not put a battery in for the back-up before we left so no clock in the room. In the bathrooms you have windows on each side, it is frosted except for a 10 inch square you can look out of while showering. But you might be able to see into these at night. They need to address this issue. The chef was always around making sure everything was set up right. There are very minor things they could do to improve things. I like a big cup of coffee, they only had little cups. They had all the makings for a nice salad, but no dressing except vinegar and oil. They should also have more bottled water available for us divers. They had a 5 gal water bottle by the bar so we kept on filling up our bottles. When we were ready to leave, they told us the bus would depart at 10:30. As usual I was early, I was there at 10:15. NO bus. They then started calling for a taxi. A taxi finally showed up at 10:55. We got to the airport in time. If they tell me we will leave at a certain time, I expect to leave. Especially when it is going to the airport.
None of these complaints are big, but I made a promise to someone to give a honest review. As a whole, the place is great, I would go back, depending on the price.
As a final note. We arrived on April 30, so we were able to meet Cajun Diva and her husband Cajuncru Diver. We were also able to dive for our week there with one of there friends, Doc. Fun guy to dive with.
