I've been invited to do some scallop diving next season in ME for a pro scallop diver. How does a diver usually get paid for this? It's his boat, and his tanks. The rest of the equip ,for me, I provide. I told him I'd think about it. I kinda figured I get paid a pecentage of the catch but I haven't asked yet. We are supposed to talk more about it later. I don't plan on making much, but I think it would be kind of a fun(but cold) part time gig. What should I expect in pay? I do know it is fishing, not always catching! Any ideas?

im not familiar with the laws in maine but i do know if you are any good at scalloping you can make some good cash. they get paid the going rate for scallops according to the size by weight.
its meat count per pound. ie u 10 is 10 meats or under which usually pays the most per pound. 15 count, 20 count, and what they call run because it might be over 20 to get a pound.
call any of the local fish buyers and they will give you a price per pound for the scallops. as to what your "buddy" is going to pay you well that can be entirely up to him.
