Tropical Storm ALPHA http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at5+shtml/211203.shtml?hwind120

A new record, yes...?

AT 5 PM EDT...2100Z...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM ALPHA WAS LOCATED
NEAR LATITUDE 17.0 NORTH... LONGITUDE 68.9 WEST OR ABOUT 210
MILES... 335 KM... WEST-SOUTHWEST OF SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO AND ABOUT
125 MILES... 200 KM...SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF SANTO DOMINGO IN THE
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC.

ALPHA IS MOVING TOWARD THE NORTHWEST NEAR 15 MPH ...24 KM/HR...AND
THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT 24 HOURS AND SHOULD
BRING THE CENTER OF ALPHA TO THE COAST OF HISPANIOLA LATE TONIGHT
OR EARLY SUNDAY MORNING.

Looks like Alphi is gonna run with Wilma towards Florida, too.

I'm about ready to start banging my head against a wall.
Hopefully it won't affect my dives tomorrow.

As a side note, I think it's fair to say that all this increased storm activity is wreaking havoc on the economies of the Caribbean/Central America.
In regards to tourism anyway, I can't even begin to imagine the damage wreaked in Cozumel and Cancun by Wilma.
Sigh.. praying for them all.

Great! Another one. I had to cancel my trip to Cancun already because of Wilma. Now who know when I'll get to go. I am thinking that mother nature has something against us.

It's more like we have something against mother nature. To what extent is this increased storm activity due to global warming, which is due to the effects of human civilization on the environment?

Possible, it could also just be a normal cycle in tropical activity. Which has nothing to do with human activity.

BTW - Alpha is now just a TD as of 11am 10-23

Consider the countless millenia for which no meterological data has been compiled.

We are pretty new here.

At this point we don't have the data to generate a plausible "cause and effect" relationship.

However, if the weather cycles are related to our industrial activities, we could be in a world of doo-doo !!!

And people there worry about earthquakes here when they visit LA?

My mother lives in Florida (as do a number of friends) so the frequency and intensity of these storms is worrisome to me.

Why do we not get a name like Xavier next?

Probly too sexy.

I can see where two Canes spinning side by side could bump and slow each other. Good thing they're not planning on merging.

The bad news is that Alphi could slow Wilma's forward movement, leaving the lady to dump rain on the southern marshes of Florida even longer.

Oh yeah, people live on those mashes.
