Matachica Resort

It's 5 miles north of San Pedro. I'll be heading there Sunday with a new wife and a brand new diver (same girl) and was wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on a reputable dive shop for us to use. Like I said, she's new to diving and to be honest, it's been a while since I've done anything substantial. We want some nice, easy, enjoyable dives with a sympathetic crew, if I'm making sense. If it goes well, I'll have a life long dive buddy. If not, I'm afraid I may not get her back in the water.

Not too far from Matachica is White Sands Dive Center, run by Elbert Greer, and is to be highly recommended. Website is Dive Shops Belize, San Pedro Ambergris Caye, Scuba Diving Instruction, Classes, PADI . Closer to Matachica is Belize Academy of Diving, Divers For Oceans, Scuba Diving...This is living !!! , though they always seem to be closed when I'm around there.

I just returned from San Pedro--I stayed at Victoria House and absolutely loved it.

We went diving with a DM from White Sands named Junior and had a blast. I couldn't recommend White Sands any more. They are the best on the island!

I am a new diver and Junior took me by the hand and was very patient with me.

Just to clear up any confusion, White Sands Dive Center started life at White Sands resort but later moved (to Journey's End/Las Terrazzas, a few miles up the beach) when that resort went seriously downhill. White Sands resort has subsequently sorted itself out and now has its own small dive operator.

SO, be careful when talking about White Sands as to whether you're referring to the resort of that name or the dive center of that name which is NOT located there. Or perhaps to the small dive operator which IS.
