I've just bought a hood it fits perfectly. when i got it home and tried it on with my mask i realised that the seals of the mask overlap onto the hood. its hard to work out if there will be a gap to let water through. I am not able to going diving to try it out.

does your mask sit perfectly on your face when wearing a hood or does the hood get in the way a little?

I know that a lot of people will put their mask on then their hood over the mask to keep it from getting knocked off. I put my mask strap over and just work the seal down by my face to get my seal. The hood goes over a little bit of the seal.

Put the hood on. Then put on the mask.

After that, run your finger around the edge of the mask seal, lifting the edge of the hood so it slightly overlaps the mask seal.

The seal on the mask is far more important to you than that of a hood. Anything that breaks the seal on you mask results in leaks. The hood is not truly sealed, anyway, and designed to hold a thin layer of water between it and your skin.

I put my hood on first then I put my mask on. The skirt of the mask overlaps the edge of the hood at points. What I end up doing is running my finger around the hood face opening so the hood sits on top of the mask.

What he said! Some hoods have an edge that can be trimmed.

I'd counsel not trimming the hood unless you have to. As others have said, put your finger inside the hood and run it around the perimeter of the mask to pull the hood out and over the top of the mask skirt.

My experience is the same as what has been stated already. In addition I find it helpful to pull my hood towards the back of my head at each of the mask straps. It tends to leak if I don't do this.It took me a few dives to figure out the best way for me. I tried it under my hood a few times but prefer it over my hood. It was actually good to learn to dive with a little water in my mask in the beginning because now it doesn't freak me out if I have a problem with it. Sometimes I flood it intentionally if it fogs up while diving. Give it a few dives, you'll get used to it.

Agreed, trimmimg is a last resort. One of my buddies actually has a face and neck shaped like Quagmire's from Family Guy and has to trim it to get a fit.

hood on, mask on, check to make sure mask seal is on skin and not hood with fingers

+1 Hood on, mask on - then ensure the mask skirt is sealed against the face.

Having an overlap of hood on top of the mask skirt is not a problem.
