I have a feeling I'm going to be posting a lot on this forum in the near future, so a little background: I just picked up a Bauer VT7 with a Mariner 200 in it from a mate. It's got just shy of 600 hours on the clock, but it reportedly needs a little work. Unfortunately it's been sitting sort of a while so my mate really doesn't remember what the nature of the work is, what I have to go on is "something about the 2nd stage and the pressure bell thingy." It's currently drained of oil and most of the fittings are loosened, so if I want to perform any kind of inspection or service, now's a pretty convenient time for it, however I'm not super sure what I'm looking at. Would it be better for me to close it up and give it a whirl first so I can see what exactly I'm trying to address, or is that sort of irrelevant and I should just do a service?
