As a new member of scubaboard, I want to let teachers and students in the North East part of the United States know about a free Marine Careers Program for high school and college students. The program is sponsored by
Beneath the Sea, a non-profit organization, that is in its 35th year of educating the public about the importance of the ocean. Beneath The Sea(BTS) runs a three day expo March 25 - 27, 2011. The Marine Careers Program is a one day (10:00 am to 5:00 pm) program with speakers from various marine career fields as well as several workshops. At the end of the day, the attendees also receive free entry to the expo floor of about 400 exhibitors which opens at 6:00 p.m. as well as to the technical diving seminars offered on the evening of March 25. The Program is held on March 25, 2011 at the Meadowlands Convention Center in Secaucus, New Jersey, just across the river from New York City.
Beneath the Sea also offers several scholarships to young people interested in learning about scuba diving, marine sciences research, and related marine education.
More details can be found on the Beneath The Sea website. I can also answer questions via postings to the scubaboard.
