Hi,
Ive got a mares sls pure bcd and need a bit more weight to go drysuit diving. The pouches that come with it are rated to 4kg and are shorter than the 6kg version. I was wondering if the length is the only difference and the mech is the same since i have room for about 1kg more in each pouch. If the mech is the same than that should work out and still make the weightsystem safe to dive. Mares support wont answer my question with anything else than "we cannot recommend using more weights than the pocket is labeled for" but my guess is thats what they have to say.
Anybody know some specifics?

Appreciate the help!
Cheers,
Simon

I can’t tell for sure what your plan is. Are you thinking of using 6kg pouches instead of 4kg pouches? If so, I would advise against it. In general, integrated weight pouch systems that come in different sizes are sized to the BCD cavity. If your BCD came with 4kg, I would expect a larger pouch to be too tight for the space. Find another way to add weight. Do you have trim pockets on the back of the BCD? Or add a supplemental weight belt or harness.

The sls system comes in 2 versions. A long 6kg pouch and a shorter 4kg pouch mech looks the same though. I just need a kilo or maybe even just half a kilo per pouch more and it would fit just asking if the mech would hold up. Dont want to use a belt.

There are 2 bag sized... The bag size that coming with the BCD is depending on the size of the BCD. If I am not mistaken, the M size up comes with 6 KG bags.

I don't think we should put more weight than spec though.

I wasnt asking for opinions but i got an answer from a vendor. The mechanism is 100% identical. If you have a bcd with 6kg pockets you could also use the 4kg pockets. since the mechanism is rated for up to 6kg use ill just add weight as needed and should be safe
