They are a very simple, robust reg. For recreational diving in water above 50 degrees F they are a great value. The first stage is an unbalanced piston design, so the regulator's intermediate pressure will slowly fall as the cylinder pressure goes down. This means that the reg's inhalation effort will be slightly more difficult at lower tank pressures than it was at the dive's start.

Dive buddies and I have long used the R2 Axis (an earlier version of the Rebel) for decompression cylinders. I once tried to overbreathe one while in a cave at 110ffw or so. All I succeeded in doing was to waste some gas.

I have serviced several of them, and they are extremely easy to tune.
