So did I read it right that the Carbon 42 reg is not nitrox compatible? If so why did they not make it compatible and are they planning to release a new model? What part of the reg is even corrosive?

That "no nitrox" statement is for the European market. The EU requires that all nitrox regs have a a special valve fitting. The reg is fine to use with mixes up to EAN40.
