While I like Mares regs (own several) I think their BC's are generally overly complex/faddish and the weight systems on many of their BC's are poorly designed/dangerous. You might want to pose the question over on the MARES manufacturers Scubaboard forum.

I have owned a Mares Dragonfly BC for about 10 years without any problems. Several people I dive with own dragons and like them. The biggest problem with the weight pockets is over loading them with more weight than their designed for and then not installing them properly.
