Hello everyone

Well, so i just purchased a brand new Aqualung Legend LX Supreme from Leisure pro and when it arrived, because of my excitement, i had to put it on and try it out. So, i am not sure (might be because this is my first time purchasing equipment) but, whenever i exhale the regulator makes a, well, sort of vibration noise. it releases all of the air i expel, but it just, well, isnt quite about it. When i depress the purge valve a bit the noise discontinues. The noise is sort of like a low, humming sound. I dont know if this is normal? *shrug* (doesnt do it with my new Legend Octopus) but will it fix if i attach it to air? should i send it back? help plz. Yikes. thanks!

I don't know what causes it, but my Legend LX primary still periodically does the same thing, but only above water. It seems to work fine nonetheless.

Mine does the same thing. FYI, your not supposed to press the purge button unless the reg is under pressure. I don't think it's a big deal if you did it once or twice. I think it presents a "possible" contamination risk.

hmm, ok, thanks crlavoie that is good to know, but i dont think i have fully pressed the button, what i meant when i said i depress (i didnt clerify very good) is that i barely push down on it, not all the way, and it will, well, soften up with the humming sounds.

Many regs do this above water, and it typically goes away once you get under. Take it diving and give it a try!

There's really no problem just pressing the purge button when there's no pressure in the hose. The danger is water entering the hose when there is no pressure to keep it out, but if you're doing it in your living room that obviously won't happen.

Be sure it's under pressure when you rinse it, though!

Why do regulators hum?

Because they don't know the words

LOL :D That's actually better than the real reason. The exhaust valve and diaphragm are very thin pieces of rubber. When diving, the water pressure dampens (forgive the pun) the vibration. Depending on the design, some do it more than others, but as with everyone else who has responded to you here... It is not a worry. Buying a reg without a manufacturers warranty... perhaps a worry... a hum... no.
