Diver reported missing on the Big Island - Hawaii News Now - KGMB and KHNL
KAILUA-KONA, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) -
A diver who was supposed to have flown to the mainland on Thursday has been reported missing off the southwest coast of the Big Island after missing his flight, according to Hawaii County Fire Department officials.

Fire officials said that a friend went to look for the man at Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park and found his truck. The man's cell phone and wallet were reportedly inside, and his dive gear was missing.

The friend said the man had planned on going on a dive on Wednesday.

A search on Thursday night did not reveal anything, and the search was scheduled to resume Friday morning.

Hard to imagine an easier shore dive on the Big Island than that spot. It's also a very popular snorkeling spot, too. So, unless he went solo diving very early or very late in the day, someone would have seen him entering the water. Hopefully more details come out.
