Hello all,

My wife's open water card is under her maiden name. Is it necessary to get a replacement with her married name, or is her photo on the card sufficient "proof"?

My wild guess would be that 9 operations out of 10 would accept the maiden name explanation without hesitation. Just don't go to the 10th operation.

Or go get the AOW certification and tuck that old card in a box without other memories.

My wife's is under her maiden name. I don't recall anyone ever asking her why it's not the same name as she fills out on the dive op waiver or other paperwork. I guess at least some dive op employees still exercise common sense.

Edit: Come to think of it, now that I see John's comment about getting AOW, my wife did get her Rescue cert after we were married, so I guess that's the card she has been using for the last few years.

In the Province of Quebec, Canada, nearly all women go under their maiden name, married or not. It's been like that for the past 40 years or so. :)
