October, November and early December are peak season at Mag Bay. This is the time of the annual sardine migration - the second largest sardine migration after Africa - with great vis and warm water. The place is loaded with life because of the bait balls. Snorkelling and free diving with the bait balls and especially with the striped marlin should be a stunning high light of the trip

Although we have been involved with boutique custom trips to the area for quite a few years, it is always been a small group of 4-6 persons, usually accompanied by a photo-pro and land based.

Now for the first time it is available by live-aboard and we I believe that Magdalena Bay will quickly become a must-do destination.

Along with the amazing marine life, aboard the NAUTILUS UNDER SEA we will also be doing the shipwrecks of the WW1 sub and also the wreck of the SS Independence, and possibly trying to locate the diveable pinnacle that is out there, and is a legend of its own.

Mag Bay is most well known for whale watching with prime season from mid January until mid April. We might see some whales but it’s basically too early.

With a 15 hour overnight sail from Cabo and hoping to board guests at 4:30 pm in the afternoon in Cabo, that would put us onsite the next morning… Trip will return and disembark in Cabo. It’s very much all about Mag Bay, the second largest sardine run in the world, crazy bait balls and striped marlin and loads of critters with a couple of shipwrecks thrown in.

From US$1695 in triple, $1795 in twin/double and $2295 in Premium Suite, plus 5% Govt tax, for the week long trip is an introductory offer. One week with diving of this calibre will be priced higher once we get thru current events and some semblance of normalcy returns.

My colleague Kirsten was just there aboard the Belle Amie and we hope to have Sten the Viking as the guide on this 7 night cruise. He has already dived these waters - see below.

Hope this helps and don't hesitate to be in touch if you have questions or wish to hold a space. Dom

PS. With safety as number one priority we will be preparing all participants with a full Covid Safety protocol including a request to record your temperature daily in the week prior to the trip and wearing of masks from boarding the flight, safe transfers with people we know, until safely on board. We take your health and safety very seriously.

Magdalena Bay

Departs October 04, 2020 for 8 days and 7 nights on the Nautilus Under Sea
Magdalena Bay is at the confluence of a deep ocean upwelling as well as the California current and northerly current flowing up the pacific coast with some of the most biologically productive waters in the world. As Sten “the vikingo” so eloquently put it when he surfaced from one of his first dives on a July exploratory trip “there are a sh*t load of fish here”. Not to mention whales, dolphins, striped marlin, turtles, sea lions, schools with millions of sardines, and much more. Some people even starting to call this area the “Mexican sardine run”. Topping all this amazing diving is our discovery of surprisingly intact WWI submarine as well as the wreck of the steamship Independence in which 150 people perished.

Magdalena Bay rocks and we are pleased to announce the start of peak season trips during the best visibility and warmest water. And at precisely the best time of year for bait balls and snorkeling with striped marlin.
