Hi,

I'm diving off a liveaboard in Thailand this January and I'm thinking about adding a side trip to Malaysia. I've been looking at Mabul or might there be a better place in SE Asia to go during the month of January? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Eric

Hi Eric,

January is not the best month for Mabul and Sipadan, but on the other hand - is there really a bad time to dive there?! You may well get reduced visibility and some bad weather, but you know what the weather is like. You could equally get a week of sun.

Interestingly, I've been in Mabul back in Jan 2004 if I am not mistaken. There were barely any clouds in the sky. But honestly, it still depends on luck because out of those many sunny days, there'll be 1-2 heavy torrential rainy days.
