I recently got into diving and are still renting most gear including wet suits. I'm currently a student in upstate NY but will be heading off to grad school in about a year who knows where, so I'm hesitant to buy a wet suit now knowing I may not be able to use it shortly. I am thinking about getting skins for a few different reasons. Any suggestions on if I should get one, and if so what I need to look for.

Get one. They do a few things for you. It makes getting any wetsuit on easier. In warm water where you will be diving in a shorty it offers exposure protection. Basically any lycra skin will do. There pretty much the same. There are some that are thinner and i would try to stay away from those. this one is like the one i have and have had foe a few years now.
