Hi guys

I did my OW and AOW in Utila last August and was there for a month an loved it.

I am in a total dilemma. Off back to Utila for three weeks in a couple of weeks - arriving Utila 26th Jan.

I loved BICD for their facilities and especualluy because their dive boat is so huge and I am a very tall and chunky guy so space is a real boon for me. Very comfy boat and harbor facilities.

BUT
Captain Morgans has given me a great deal for upfront payment of 30 fun dives but I hear their boats are small

Staying at Rubi's - but tempted to stay on the Cay for the full three weeks with the Captain Mortgan crew at their hotel (I am in my late forties and not into the hectic partying and night life as long as there are restaurants and bars and a convenience store on the Cay for eceryday items including cigs rum etc!)

OR

Throw caution to the wind - stick with Rubi's and saty with the familiar BICD and their great boat - their rate is quite a bit higher for the fun dives but they just haggled with me and offered three free dives for an upfront cash payment for 30 dives.

I realise no-one can *really* answer my questions for me but I am just throwing it out there and open to suggestions and opinions!

Thoughts?

Apparantly things on Utila have changed a lot in the last two years. All the dive operations near town had the exact same rates for training and fun dives. In fact, I think there was some sort of "group" that kept it that way to avoid dive shops almost giving dives away so no one was making any money. The only price differences were in give aways like T shirts or something like that.
I don't think you can go wrong with any choice but BICD has always been a good operation and I too like those big boats. You can easily avoid the party atmosphere by just avoiding a couple of the bars. The convenience and choices offered by the town are hard to beat compared to staying on a Cay. I partied hardy on some nights and totally avoided the crowds and fun lovers on other nights. Mango Inn is away from the noise and serves a great pizza.
