I am looking at getting two to four aluminum 80s for sidemount and one or two aluminum 40s. I can buy two used Luxfer aluminum 80s and two used Luxfer aluminum 40s but by the time I get the Hydro and Vis done and replace two of the valves (two are defective) I will have spent as much money per tank as buying new Impact Metal tanks.

I am just starting sidemount and know very little about suitable tanks. Are Luxfer tanks better for sidemount or are Metal Impact just as good from a buoyancy standpoint?

Metal Impact are supposed to be very similar in buoyancy as Luxfer. I don't know how they compare for sidemount tanks, but as stage tanks they carry about the same, and aren't the boat anchor that Catalinas felt like.

If there's a difference between the AL 80s, it's imperceptible to me.
