I've been a lurker here for quite some time. I was certified in 2006. I'm a recreational diver and play around a little with underwater photography. My pictures aren't very good but I hope to spend more time learning to improve that.
It's been a several years since logging a dive for a couple reasons.
The last time I went diving, my dive buddy had a mask issue at the surface and the rest of the group went down not realizing it. It was a drift dive and I waited for him. On the descent I thought I saw bubbles and kicked toward the group. Visibility quickly went down hill and after searching for the group for about 10 minutes we surfaced to abort the dive. I'm glad we did because we were nowhere near the group or the dive boat for that matter.
It was only buddies 2nd dive and he was quite comfortable sitting on the surface with his safety sausage under his arms as if he was floating on a noodle in a swimming pool. I'm waving my safety sausage in the air as high as I can get it. I wasn't as worried about getting lost at sea as I was getting run over by a boat. Thank goodness I can laugh about it now, but it brings back quite a bit of anxiety just thinking about it.

Anyways, I'm unlikely to get more than a 100 posts in a year, but I'm announcing the coming out of lurker status for a while in an effort to enjoy safe diving again.

Just incase anyone is curious, I am diving with a dive master and a more experienced diver this week. I'm using it as a check out dive to back into the swing of things.

Thanks for listening,
Rob

it is the same with all hobbies, sometimes all is cool and sometimes something suck.
it is no competition out there, if you log 1 dive pr year or hundredes,
just try to learn alot all the time and dive as safe and as slow as you can,
if you always go with a good friend and he is DM, just do exactly as he say
and as he do, then you mostlikely will be fine and learn alot fast.
Orlando is not the best place for diving, since there is no water near :-)
go south or go for the grotto

I have about 50 dives logged however almost half of those dives are during a week in Roatan in 2007. I usually dive in West Palm Beach on a charter. It's decent diving but it's no Roatan ;)

I'm all about slow, steady, and prefer dives in the 40 to 60 foot range. I'm certainly not a thrill seeker and I'm usually puzzled when people tell me how crazy I am for diving. For me it's relaxing but some of my friends compare it to sky diving.

if you are a real thrill seeker, then all hobbies will end killing you,
since you keep pushing the limits all the time,
like lets break the deepth record of last dive.. just a few feets more on each dive,
you do the math and see when it ends..

welcome aboard your old buddy might invest in a second sausage

Welcome back!

When I lived in Orlando I spent a lot of time diving at Blue Springs State Park in Orange City.
If you go there try to avoid weekends and holidays.

Another unique dive in the Orlando area is Dive Quest at Disney EPCOT.

+1 on Blue Springs.

My family lives in Orlando and when I visit, I try to go back to Blue Springs

I also make the drive to Ocala, for 40 Fathom Grotto.
