As my beloved lakers were getting lit, I was out shooting some quickies of the lunar eclipse.

I live about a modest surface swim from LAX - not the best place to view anything in the sky, let alone try to shoot a lunar eclipse with a digital camera. But some of these turned out better than I expected.

Enjoy, and post your shots, too.

For photo geeks only:

I shoot exclusively digital these days. Location portraiture, mostly. These were shot with my Oly C4040, stroboframe 350 flip bracket, no flash (duh) on a gitzo explorer tripod with manfrotto 3437 mag tri-swivel head.

Shot in shutter priority, from 1 - 4 seconds exposure. Some cropped for detail.

No PhotoShop voodoo.

Thanks for sharing these, Ken. I thought it was tonight~

I've shot some pics last night behind my house, my old trusty SLR with 75-300mm lens and a tripod...

but since it is not digital it will probably take me weeks to finish the roll, develop it and scan :/

You didn't miss anything, Dee...we didn't get to see anything here. It was way too cloudy and the cloud cover ruined everything. :(

Had hoped to see it last night, but the east coast is socked in.... Lovely weather, although after last years drought I shouldn't complain.:D

Thanks for the great shots Ken, I went to the late showing of the Matrix last night, so only saw about the last five minutes. I had forgotten all about it. Thanks for the memories....

Ken, I am closer to LAX than you, and at what I thought was the appropriate time, I went up to the roof to look and saw...nothing. Maybe I got it wrong, but what time was it? I saw no trace of the moon at alll....

Silly girl - it was a full lunar eclipse - of course you saw no moon.

OK - couldn't resist. When I couldn't find it, that's what Jaye said to me.

First of all - there is no way you're closer to LAX than I am... unless you live in the Furama Hotel or at In-N-Out (hey - I want to live there...). I'm at Lincoln & Manchester and can hear them, feel them and at times, smell them (ok, maybe not smell them...)

Second - the Griffith site said 8:40p - but it was only at 10 degrees East...petty low. Like over the golf course for me. That light noise in the pics aren't really LAX, but likely the driving range at Westchester a block away.

Its 9:00 now, and I just poked out side and I see no moon. I seem to remember it being well after 9:00 when I saw and shot.

Next one is November!
