Switching out lp and hp hoses seems like it is a user serviceable thing to do. Is there anything special that needs to be done when changing/reconfiguring the lp or hp hoses on your regs?

It is a fairly easy process. Remember that hoses are an o-ring seal, so you only need a very slight amount of torque beyond hand tight.

Just make sure you get LP hoses on LP ports and vise versa. I suggest you gently start the hose by hand and continue by hand until it seats, then a SNUG up with the proper wrench- at a minumum use a quality adjustable wrench, a quality standard wrench is best and avoid the multi wrench "scubatools" things unless there is no other choice. They tend to be poorly machined and will often scratch or round off the soft brass fitting on the hoses. Pulling gently on the end of a wrench with 2 fingers is plenty of torque, same goes for the second stage end.

Well....maybe. If you are just moving a hose from one port to another (low pressure to low pressure, high pressure to high pressure of course) and leaving the other end as is, just do as Phil says, hand tight plus a little bit.

But, if you are completely changing out a hose, i.e. removing the HP gauge or second stage regulator, a bit more caution is called for. NEVER just un-torque and re-torque a hose end to a plastic second stage or hp gauge with out using a backup wrench. Rather than me attempting to explain it, have a look at a manual at this site, quickly read thru and look at the pictures and diagrams and you will get the idea. Dive Rite RG1200 Regulator Manual - Page %CURPAGENUM% of %LASTPAGENUM%

Scroll down to page 24 for a picture of someone using a backup wrench on a plastic second stage.
