A cave diver in Mexico named Mariano Silva, trying to connect two sumps (from what I understand), is currently the target of rescue/recovery attempts.

Laura Derrick has a something of a summary on her blog at http://cavecritter.blogspot.com/2004_04_01_cavecritter_archive.html#108166317724995428

but a newspaper article detailing the rescue attempt is at http://elsoldepuebla.com.mx/040411/local/1local.asp (in Spanish).

Javier Vargas Guerrero posted more information at http://www.montanismo.org.mx/articulos.php?id_art=964&id_sec=6&id_ejemplar=201 (again, in Spanish).

A summary by Peter Sprouse:
Javier Vargas Guerrero has posted more details on how the diver went missing in
Oztoquito at the montanismo.org.mx website. Mariano Fuentes went in for his
second crack at the sump, presumed to be the link between Oztoquito and
Oztoque, solo, with two tanks. When he had not returned in three hours his
companions summoned help. The next day divers from UNAM - an NSS/CDS certified
instructor apparently, and some of his cave diving students - did a probe dive
along Mariano's dive line for 40 meters, with 30 cm visibility. They then
retreated and decided that more skilled cave divers were needed to do a
systematic search.

John Green, Texas NCRC coordinator, facilitated the arrival of US cave divers on
the scene, dealing with consulates and the US State Department. RD Milhollin
and Steve Ormeroid (sp?) from the US arrived this morning along with two divers
from Yucatan (or maybe Quintana Roo). They are probably diving at this moment,
and maybe we will have more news by morning.

Hola, Mariano, was indeed lost in a sump in puebla, 2 hours from mexico city, he was a freind of mine and we explored some caves here in yucatan together just 2 months ago, sadly he was pulled out yesterday dead, he was a good guy and he will never be forgotten. R.I.P mariano, see ya on the other side.
