I am currently looking to purchase a new steel single tank, with the intent of getting into tec later(thus doubling the tanks). I am a bit conflicted on what tanks to look into...

About me:
6'4
190 pounds
Will not likely go past TDI Trimix diver

I will gladly appreciate any advice, thanks.

Since you are taller, a hp120 or lp104/108 would be a good size. Although you should consider buying a pair to make doubling easier later on.

Welcome to SB. I too would recommend buying two "matched" cylinders as well. Cylinders can vary slightly from one batch to another. So having two matching cylinders will make it easier to double them up. At the same time it might even be worth buying a manifold with plugs to use as single valves. Mostly to save a bit of money on not having to buy a second set of valves. Of course getting into tech will require lots more $$.

As for which cylinders, my preference would be LP85 or LP108 as I think the HP doubled would be too negative for someone with your build. I have a similar build and use LP85s and LP76s.

As for buying new ... look for a used set of doubles. They can often be found very reasonably priced.

Just to mention you can do tdi trimix diver with a single tank with a duel outlet it doesn't have to be doubles. Obviously you'd want to go for a larger one if you did that like a 16litre or 18litre.

More important in tank selection is what exposure protection you'll be wearing. For example in the UK I would use twin 12 steels. In Saudi I use Ali 80cu/ft (approx 11.1l).

One more thing to consider is 60m on o/c you will burn gas very quickly. This gives you two options. You either have a bigger twinset (16s or 18s) or you carry a bottom stage.

I would suggest that you go ahead and but you normal al80 single tank for now. And she you want you start tech either have it o2 cleaned and ise it for your deco gas or just use it as a bottom stage to extend you bottom time.
