I'm currently looking for a place to do my IDC in either April or May in Utilia or Rotan. I've never been to either place but the pricing is why I keep coming back to either of these locations, plus the fact I can get in some great diving at a place I've never been. However, I'm not sure what location or dive OP to do my IDC with, do any of you out there have any suggestions?

Thanks,
Adam

Check out Jungle Jim's blog here: jungle jim in paradise

He's the IDC guy at the Utila Lodge. I've met Jungle and like him alot. Can't say how he is as a teacher, but UTLgirl might be able to chime in on that. If his musings on the blog are any indication, I'll probably get him to put me through the course at some point.

Can't go wrong with the Bay Islands. Have fun!

Roatan is nice and easy to to get to with direct flights from Miami, Atlanta, Houston and New York. That is especially important when you are coming to do something like an IDC and REALLY don't want to risk losing your luggage. I find that flying through the mainland seriously increases the risk of this and always fly direct if at all possible.

Coconut Tree Divers (Coconut Tree Divers - Roatan, Honduras) are likely to be doing IDCs in April and May this year. They will also arrange the transport to Utila for the IE if it is there, there may well be one on Roatan anyway as there are likely to be quite a few Roatan candidates. Coconut Tree have $5 a night air conditioned accomodation which is a bargain for Roatan!

We fly through Houston via Continental from Phoenix and it's a nice quick flight. We looked at Utila for our IDC as we really have a blast down there. Either way you can't go wrong- if you end up in Utila let us know when you'll be there for sure, we'll be there again and June for two weeks.
