I have the S1 IS with the u/w housing. The housing is pretty solid, looks more solid then the camera...
I bought the set just before going on a diving trip and it's the first time I used a camera u/w; it seems that I'll have to do more testing of the different settings, as not a lot of the pics turned out OK, but again that's my inablility.
I forgot to activate the internal flash most of the time...
I also bought an external slave - Sunpack, for which I have doubts about the necessity, as the internal flash covers a lot of the situations.
The video is quite good.
Everything in prespective (price of the setup) I consider this a good purchase.

Just killing time and checked out the S1 IS side by side to the A95 here

With a short look, I'd go with the A95 FWIW. According to that site the A95 is also cheaper...but that might just be there...

But I think either camera would work ;)

The x10 optical zoom is great though I don't think I had ever used it underwater. The video quality is very good.

As for the housing, beside being quite bulky, my main complaint is that it is quite buoyant. So you would either need more weights, buy camera weights (4 pieces according to www.canon.com.sg) or get a bracket with strobe.

On my second dive trip, the camera started to fog up. The problem has been resolved by putting in small packets of dessicants.

All my pictures were taken with the Canon S1. You can check them out. Note that I am new to photography (underwater or otherwise) and it is the first time I am learning how to take pictures. Overall, I am happy with the camera.
