Hi!

I am looking into buying the Canon S1-IS and casing for my underwater photografy. Could some of you give me a feedback on the quality of the pictures, and not the least important: the quality of the casing?

Thanks!

Looking at buying the same camera. I've read only good reviews so far. Keep my posted on your findings.

Check out www.dpreview.com. As I remember, I heard that the images tend to be a little soft. Also, it doesn't focus at very close distances. I've been looking into the same thing and I think I'm going with Canon A95 instead.

I think you should take a look at some of the pictures in the Canon forum section at dpreview. Some very impressive close up shots both above and below the surface.

I think the macro is actually quite ok. Of course, you can always buy an attachment Macro lens. I think somebody actually said that the pictures are a little soft because Canon chose to not let it's internal software do so much of it?

Have posted some pics from my latest diving trip in my gallery...

sprain - love that first image! I would try to flip it vertical and maybe, just maybe, play with a little crop and it would go from lovely to something a little more special, I think...just my humble O (it might also suck :eyebrow: )

I think you're right. It does look better when I flip it...I just posted it the way I took it, didn't even give that a thought...

I'll give it a try on the cropping. I had wanted to do that to take away the dark corner, but was too lazy :)

Cheers!!

Hope you don't mind, but here's my 20 second try at it (happy to remove it if I have overstepped!):

You know what...it looks awesome!! Thanks for the tips!!

I also have the S1 in the Canon housing and have no complaints regarding image quality or housing build. The IS system is useful for macro shots and great for underwater video. The pics in my gallery are from the S1, using onboard flash (I am still trying to figure out what strobe to get.)
