As the title suggests, I'm looking for a decent video light that I can use with my Canon G15 and Canon Housing. I'm trying to keep the kit fairly small and compact and stay within the $500-$600 range. I was thinking of mounting the light directly on the the cold shoe of the housing (maybe 3-4 inches above) to keep the kit small. I can get an i-Torch 5 for under $400 (1600 Lumens) online, will this do an decent job of lighting?

I'm experienced in video above water, below is all new to me so any help will be appreciated. Not looking to spend a fortune (yet) either.

Thanks

I guess you will be using this for Macro?
The light you mention is even too powerful there is no critter that would cope with 1600 lumens and also is a bit heavy for a cold shoe flex arm in air
itorch makes a compact 750 lumens that is lighter and more suitable for the cold shoe on the housing
Another option is the époque El-1000 A105 costs $225 is small and has 1000 lumens I have one of those and it is perfect on the cold shoe

So this is good information, you think that I could get away with 750 - 1000 lumens? I think it'll be a combo of macro and wide (28mm wide that is) as well as some zooming in on further away subjects (the light won't do much for this I know). I've been using a gopro with no lights or filters until now. I'm just looking to get some color in my video.

Thanks

With the G15 and the canon housing the field of view underwater without a dome is under 60 degrees anyway so there is not reason to get anything wider. With a dome gets to 75 degrees diagonal that can be covered by both lights I suggested
The G15 is especially suited for macro and not really suitable for wide angle because of lack of wide lenses due to the 5x zoom
With a single video light you can shoot very good macro with 500-800 lumens. Personally I think even 500 are enough but is better to have some spare power

Cool - thank you! I guess I can start with one light, if I need more power I can get a second (along with a tray and arms). I think the i-torch 750 looks good right now.

One more quick question, when it comes to lights and video, is some light always better than no light in most circumstances? Lets say I get 750 lumen light and leave it on for an entire dive while recording video, will any harm be done to the video? I can't imagine it would.

As I mentioned, I'm not looking for a large rig to lug around, but if I get just one light, will I be wasting my money? Video is just for personal use or posting online for friends.

Thanks again.
